Question by hello: Sight Reading Help for Choir?
I have a choir test tomorrow to see if i am able to get into a better choir then the one i’m in now. I know how to read music but i can’t do it unless i label it which i can do relatively quickly. I need help though because for the test, he hands me a sheet and asks me to read it. It isn’t a very diffucult at all because i’m in the high school’s beginning choir. The problem is i cannot read the notes very quickly at all which is essential for getting into this better choir. I need help from someone who could explain an easy way to read the notes fast (do re me fa so la ti do) and a way to practice before tomorrow. thanks

Answer by Johnny Rocker89
Tell him you can only read and sing the music slower. When my teachers have us sight sing melodies, we HAVE to sing at that pace though. If you feel he will not let you sing it slower, practice on the songs you have troubles on.

It seems you know how to sing it but just cannot sing it fast enough. All I can say is just practice.

Question by bombastic: Help with medical research, do you have this?
I asked this earlier but did not get any responses. If you have Sjogrens Syndrome (it’s an incurable illness that results in dry eyes and mouth, arthritis pain in muscles and joints and many other symptoms) or do you know of someone who has it? Can you tell me how you found out that you had it. What treatments have you undergone and have they been effective at all?
Lupus is similar but did your doctors say the treatment is the same for Sjogrens Syndrome? Were you feeling ill when you were diagnosed? What medications are taken? I’d appreciate the info.

Best answer:

Answer by Chris G
I have it. I was diagnosed with Lupus about 30 yea rs ago. My SSA went positive a few months later. I keep Tic Tacs with me at all times . I also have a drink available too. I have to moisturize every time I bathe. I use artificial tears, not lubricating drops, but tears. My Immunologist also suggested saline spray for my nose. You will adapt. I did. How was your ANA?

Question by : Need help with Character names!?
I need names for 3 boys and 4 girls. Please no generic or names that are too modern, It’s about an academy for children who practice white magick (yeah it’s spelled like that) and fight against dark magicians.

GIRLS

G#1 : She’s friendly, new to the academy and knows all about bullies and the perfect comebacks. She also has a tendency to accidentally cross the line without knowing the line was there. Her magick is healing magick, and she comes in very handy after a cat fight …
I was thinking Ellen, Meagan or something like that. A pretty name that’s nice and light.

G#2 : She’s a bookworm and a total genius. She knows everything about everyone and knows better than to cause a scene. She’s shy around people she hasn’t met, but she’d do the craziest things after a couple of red bulls. She studies spells.
Perhaps Cassia or Rae because they’re simple and sweet and smooth on the tongue.

G#3 : The scary glamorous one. She’s stunning, but if you cross her you’re in for trouble. Contrary to common belief, she isn’t as stupid as she is beautiful. She knows a lot of useful battle tips and is good at hand-to-hand combat. Her magick is physical, like telekineses.
I was thinking something elegant and sweet … or maybe a bit of bitter to emphasise her ability to pound you like a steak.

G#4 : Typical rocker chick, always getting into trouble. She’s younger than all of the other girls and is dating G#3′s younger brother, so naturally G#3 and her hate each other. Her category of magick is offense, and that includes insults …
Something on sharp and jagged, with a lot of S’s, T’s, R’s or D’s (hard noises), not smooth, kind of rough.

GUYS

B#1 : He’s brave and intelligent, but lacks in the ability to read girl’s thoughts (Don’t they all?). Most of the girls on campus don’t take notice of him, but G#2 really likes him, as both a friend and potential boyfriend. He’s excellent at science, so naturally he studies complicated potions (chemical reactions) . He’s an absolute party animal, and throws the wildest dorm parties. And of course – he’s dating G#3 …
Whatever you want. I was thinking Sam or something like that but go for it! (that was lame -.-)

B#2 : Rebel. R-E-B-E-L. He’s the kind of guy that your parents tell you not to hang around.
He wears black, but not a lot, the academy uniform prevents him from “expressing himself”, as he says. He “doesn’t do dates”. Good in the art of Defense magick but his offence magick is useless…
Something quite boring to contrast with his personality.

B#3 : G#3′s younger brother. He’s kind, has gorgeous eyes, and is dating G#4.
His life is complicated, but he tries to sort it out. He studies simple magick to keep that part of his life sane.

PLEASE REPLY! BE CREATIVE :3

Question by : *HELP!!!* – Is Style Meaning? – Nora Ephron?
1. Ephron’s diction is much more informal than the diction of Douglass or Churchill. Cite four of these informalities.

2. How would you describe Ephron’s use of sentence length? What does she gain by using so much variety?
——————————————————————————
I have to begin with a few words about androgyny. In grammar school, in the fifth and sixth grades, we were all tyrannized by a rigid set of rules that supposedly determined whether we were boys or girls. The episode in Huckleberry Finn where Huck is disguised as a girl and gives himself away by the way he threads a needle and catches a ball-that kind of thing. We learned that the way you sat, crossed your legs, held a cigarette, and looked at your nails-the way you did these things instinctively was absolute proof of your sex. Now obviously most children did not take this literally, but I did. I thought that just one slip, just one incorrect cross of my legs or flick of an imaginary cigarette ash would turn me from whatever I was into the other thing; that would be all it took, really. Even though I was outwardly a girl and had many of the trappings generally associated with girldom-a girl’s name, for example, and dresses, my own telephone, an autograph book-I spent the early years of my adolescence absolutely certain that I might at any point gum it up. I did not feel at all like a girl. I was boyish. I was athletic, ambitious, outspoken, competitive, noisy, rambunctious. I had scabs on my knees and my socks slid into my loafers and I could throw a football. I wanted desperately not to be that way, not to be a mixture of both things, but instead just one, a girl, a definite indisputable girl. As soft and as pink as a nursery. And nothing would do that for me, I felt, but breasts. I was about six months younger than everyone else in my class, and so for about six months after it began, for six months after my friends had begun to develop (that was the word we used, develop), I was not particularly worried. I would sit in the bathtub and look down at my breasts and know that any day now, any second now, they would start growing like everyone else’s. They didn’t.

Question by : need help. negligence/duty of care?
Penny Parkes is a 19 year old client. She has requested that you advise her about obtaining compensation for eye injuries sustained at school when she was 15. She has provided you with the following factual background, which she has confirmed accurately represents her understanding of the facts:

1. On 7 March 2007 Penny was at her school, Magnolia State Secondary School (the School) in Melbourne. At the end of a maths class Penny and her friend, Danielle Dixon, were messing around, hitting each other’s 30cm plastic rulers as if in a sword fight. One of the rulers snapped and a piece of plastic entered Penny’s left eye. As a result, Penny has lost all useful sight in that eye.

2. In a review conducted by the School, the maths teacher Mr Bradley Abraham gave evidence that the bell had rung marking the end of the class a minute or two before the incident occurred. Penny and Danielle had packed up their things and were walking out of the class when they decided to have a sword fight. Mrs Abraham did not see the sword fight because he was too busy yelling at a couple of boys who were mucking about trying to trip each other up. Mr Abraham, who is an experienced teacher, reported that Penny and Danielle were both quiet students who seemed quite mature. He did not consider that they needed any particular supervision

3. Mr Abraham is employed by the School. The School has told Penny that it will not accept responsibility for her injuries. The principal of the School has advised that it does not have a policy prohibiting sword fights with rulers. This is because this sort of conduct is quite commonplace in schools and in her view it is not normally a dangerous activity. It is widely regarded as a comparatively innocent form of horseplay; more disruptive than dangerous. There is no evidence of similar injuries involving a ruler fight in Victorian schools.

4. Danielle has said that it did not occur to her that the ruler might snap and fly into Penny’s eye in the way it did. She acknowledges that she had seen teachers stop ruler fights in class in the past, but that she always thought this was done more to stop the disruption to the class than because the activity was particularly dangerous. She claims that she was not being excessively violent when participating in the game; no more violent than Penny herself.

5. Penny has had three operations on her eye but they have not been successful in restoring her sight. There is scar tissue on the eye which is unsightly and embarrassing for Penny. She is not able to get a driver’s licence because of her lost eyesight, which is very upsetting and frustrating for her. Prior to the incident Penny had hoped to become a commercial airline pilot flying for a company like Qantas, and had already started taking flying lessons. She is now ineligible to get a pilot’s licence of any kind due to her partial loss of sight. She is now studying an Arts degree at Deakin University.

6. Danielle has repeatedly apologised to Penny, saying that it was just an accident. Penny concedes that it was an accident and that Danielle did not intend to hurt her. Nevertheless, Penny feels that Danielle has ruined her life, and has not spoken to her for years. Danielle has started up a successful EBAY business selling expensive cosmetics.

Penny is seeking your advice about whether she can claim damages from anyone for her eye injury. You can act on the basis that Penny has six years from the date of the incident in which to bring a claim

Question by Mr. R: Here is my 5th math question if anyone can help me with (Precalculus)Conic Section )Thanks?
“Two microphones, 1 mile apart, record an explosion. Microphone A receives the sound 4 seconds before Microphone B. Find the equation of the hyperbola on which the point of explosion occurred. The microphones will lie at the foci of the hyperbola. The speed of sound is 1100 feet per second. (Hint: for any point on the hyperbola, the absolute value of the difference of its distances from the foci is 2a)”

Best answer:

Answer by halac
Pick the A and B foci at (x,y) = (+/- 2640, 0)

Formula is of form (x/a)^2 – (y/b)^2 = 1
In 4 seconds, sound travels 4*1100ft. This means that if explosion was on line between A and B, it would be:
(5280-4400)/2 = 440ft from A, or 2640-440=2200ft from origin.
This is the value of a. (agrees with hint)

Now, sqrt(a^2+b^2) = 2640 (half distance between foci),
or b^2 = 2640^2-2200^2= 2129600.

We’ll multiply thru by 100 to get:
x^2/48400 – y^2/21296 = 100
